Slideshow: Lancaster Catholic vs. Bishop McDevitt boys’ District 3 hoops

February 22, 2012

LANCASTER - Ask any bracketologist about the toughest first-round game to predict, and you’ll probably get the same answer just about every time.

It’s the 8 vs. 9 match-up, which usually pits teams with similar records and similar strengths of schedule.

It’s also a tough first-rounder because the winner – baring upsets – usually gets the 1-seed in the quarterfinals.

So you can’t be caught looking ahead – while playing someone that probably mirrors your style.

Lancaster Catholic, the reigning District 3 “AAA” champ, drew the No. 8 seed for this year’s tourney, and on Tuesday the Crusaders – fresh off playing in the league title game on Saturday – hosted No. 9 Bishop McDevitt, a Mid-Penn entrant that came in Districts playing well.

McD remained hot, racing past Lancaster Catholic 73-61 in a battle of Crusaders in Lancaster in the tricky 8-9 game.

Aaron DeVan pumped in 24 points for McD, which is now 11-4 in its last 15 games, and gets No. 1 seed Lampeter-Strasburg in “AAA” quarterfinal game on Friday at 8 p.m. in the Giant Center.

McD closed the game on a 26-14 spree to pull away from Lancaster Catholic for good, as the Crusaders finished their season 19-7 overall – and without a repeat in Districts.

But Lancaster Catholic did win the Section 4 title and play for the league crown.

L-L League News photo contributor Mark Palczewski was snapping photos at the Lancaster Cahtolic vs. McD game on Tuesday night, and he was kind enough to send along 17 shots, which you can view in this slideshow …
