District 3 basketball notables; tip time change for Manheim Township-Solanco girls’ quarterfinal

February 22, 2012

LANCASTER – Couple of things to pass along …

TIME CHANGE: Friday’s Manheim Township vs. Solanco District 3 “AAAA” girls’ quarterfinal game will still be played at Penn Manor. But the start time has been pushed back to 7:30 p.m. because there will now be a double-header at that venue. At 6 p.m., Red Lion will take on Daniel Boone in another girls’ “AAAA” quarterfinal. Mark your calendars and plan accordingly.

LIVE BLOGS: Will get a you live chat blog from the much-anticipated Hempfield at McCaskey boys’ District 3 “AAAA” first-round game on Wednesday. Come and find me around 6:30 p.m. for that launch. Tip is at 7 p.m. … Will also offer up a live chat blog on Friday from the Manheim Township vs. Solanco quarterfinal girls’ game. Will go live around 7 p.m. or so from Millersville. … Family stuff going on Saturday so no hoops for me. We’ll see who’s still standing after the weekend and I’ll get you a live blog schedule for next week (also know as the week when there are games in the Giant Center Monday through Saturday; Hershey, here I come). Stay tuned.

LUCKY NUMBER 13: Thought it was interesting that a pair of defensive grinders came up big on the offensive end Tuesday night for Manheim Township and Solanco. The Blue Streaks’ Molly Hendrick matched her season-high with 13 points in Manheim Township’s 45-30 win over Shippensburg. And the Golden Mares’ Claudia Buzzard matched her season-high with 13 points and she scored the game-winning bucket with 8 seconds to go in the second overtime in Solanco’s thrilling 60-59 win over Harrisburg. … Hendrick also scored 13 points in Township’s 47-36 win over York Suburban in the consolation-round game of York Suburban’s holiday tourney on December 29. … Buzzard also scored 13 points way back in the season-opener on December 9 in a 63-20 romp over Kutztown in the first round of the Twin Valley Tip-Off Tournament. … It’s that time of year: Win and advance. Seems like there is a different hero every night. Tuesday, Hendrick and Buzzard stepped up.
